Science

The Science program is divided in 4 categories Processes and Skills of Science, Life Science, Physical Science and Earth and Space Science.

In Processes and Skills of Science the students the students will learn to ask questions that foster investigations and explorations relevant to the content they will measure objects and events.

In Life Science the students will compare familiar plants according to similarities and differences in appearance and life cycles, describe ways in which plants are important to other living things and the environment, and describe how plants are harvested and used throughout the seasons. The will also compare the structures and behaviours of local animals and plants in different habitats and communities,
analyze simple food chains, demonstrate awareness of the Aboriginal concept of respect for the environment and determine how personal choices and actions have environmental consequences.

Physical Science the students will learn to describe shapes that are part of natural and human-built structures (e.g., domes, arches, pyramids) learn to compare the effects of different materials, shapes, and forces on the strength and stability of different structures and learn to conduct investigations into ways to improve the strength and stability of structures.

They will also identify sources of light, sound and explain properties of light (e.g., travels in a straight path, can be reflected) and explain properties of sound (e.g., travels  in waves, travels in all directions)

Earth and Space Science they will learn to describe characteristics and movements of objects in our solar system, learn to compare familiar constellations in seasonal skies and learn to demonstrate awareness of the special significance of celestial objects for Aboriginal peoples.

They will measure weather in terms of temperature, precipitation, cloud cover, wind speed and direction and analyze impacts of weather on living and non-living things
